The first big block describes all packets that have been installed during the system install.

PS I did not get do you still have problems with panels?

There is still some problem with the panels, I think, but I have used the package posted on the starryhope.com pages and placed the file on my desktop.
So far I have needed to use it twice yesterday, but not today.
The symptoms have been either the top and bottom bars were missing, or all the icons of files on the desktop were missing.
There has been an improvement since I changed the desktop theme to Clearlooks with a solid background colour.
I've just installed EMC2 and now making some progress.

Well, it all fell apart again when trying to use EMC2.
Any attempt to load a config file was to display an error file, even the sample configs.
I went back to the linuxcnc site and downloaded the combined 10.04/emc2 installation, but this gave me the same problems with panels not loading.
I tried ignoring this and opening emc2, which was possible, but I had the same error windows appearing when I tried to load a config file, so I've given up on Lucid, and I'm in the process of reinstalling Hardy Heron.
Thanks for your help, and I will continue to wait for lucid to become sufficiently bug free to give the newbies like me a better experience.

It's a strange behavior of Ubuntu. Probably problem is in the hardware.
I'm sorry that you have lost your time trying to make it work.
