The one listed appears fairly old. I'm just trying to figure out what "Area Width" is and how I can apply it to a pocket.
When I try to make a path for the area of a star, I get tons of paths on top of each other when there should only be two 0.01" cuts to get to the depth of 0.02".
Even if I ignore the extra paths, when I select them to export to gcode, I get "Warning: One or more paths do not have 'd' parameter, try to Ungroup (Ctrl+Shift+G) and Object to Path (Ctrl+Shift+C)!".
File is attached.

Re: Updated Area Tutorial?
What is your final goal?
Because offsetting the path is not the best way to do pocketing. Probably make pocketing by spiral or zig-zag trajectory is better.
There's such function in dev version, called fill area, it fills the path using one of this techniques.

Re: Updated Area Tutorial?
Thanks! I'll check it out. Very neat tool
Re: Updated Area Tutorial?
Hi. Area works fine for me (version 1.7). BUT i can't figure out in what units...
Tried mm - result is approx 11-12 times too small,
tried pixels - result is 30% too small.
Overall dimensions are ok, just area functions have own units.
Tool set to 3(mm?) area fill with overlap set to 0 generates paths at 2.165mm spacing.....

Re: Updated Area Tutorial?
Can you attach your svg?
Re: Updated Area Tutorial?
SVG attached. just realised that ubuntu 10.4(linuxCNC intall) has inkscape 0.47. I'll try newer inscape on 13.4 in a minute.
Edit:
Inkscape 0.48.4 same problem. After further investigation it looks like default unit is 0.005".I thought Russian developers would use metric units and inches are used in USA only

Re: Updated Area Tutorial?
How did you create this path? Was it imported from other application?
If you import something from for example cdr, or svg created in Corel the best way is to create new svg in Inkscape and move there only paths.
There could be a problem caused by inappropriate svg format or some additional parameters...
For example, you have a group ink_ext_XXXXXX that has a Transform matrix matrix(1.25,0,0,-1.25,0,1052.5)

Re: Updated Area Tutorial?
It's imported EPS from vectographics(.org?)
I tried importing and tracing Jpeg and everything is fine.
How can i import only paths from eps file? Importing it all, moving paths to new layer and removing remaining layer will work? Or is there more efficient way?
Thanks.

Open EPS select paths (either manually, or ungroup all + select all, or Find - paths)zajc3w писал(а):How can i import only paths from eps file? Importing it all, moving paths to new layer and removing remaining layer will work? Or is there more efficient way?
Copy.
File - New.
